Custom builder Outside Van just introduced the ultimate Sprinter for self-sufficient and adventurous cyclists. Called Tails, this 2021 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 144 is built for dedicated riders mobbing down single track deep in the woods of British Columbia, trekking upwards on petrified sand dunes of Moab, embracing joyous torture that is cyclocross, and everything in-between.

Inside and out, Tails is a complete mobile bike mechanic station. A handful of Tails’ many bells and whistles include a garage gear glider, custom tool rolls, Park Tools repair stand, rear door flip-down worktable, Molle panels, and an ARB air compressor with multiple attachment sites. Exterior utility ladders secure up to four bikes.

“We’ve maximized every inch of this 2021 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 144 4WD vehicle,” Outside Van Marketing & Creative Director Brian Jagodnik explained. “Tails is a full basecamp for overnight adventures. Kitchen features include a deep, rectangular under-mount sink with pull-down sprayer faucet, overhead cabinetry and microwave, Isotherm 4.6 cubic foot stainless steel refrigerator, multiple 110V, USB-C/USB, and 12V outlets, and 20-gallon freshwater tank.”

According to Jagodnik, Tails is loaded with a robust Lithionics power system, boasting 945Ah of power alongside a 2,000W magnum inverter to stay off-grid for extended adventures.

“For sunny days, the rooftop houses a 140W ZAMP solar panel,” he added. “All this power is more than enough to power and charge your highest output components.”

The 3-panel bed system has a 1-inch memory foam topper. The forward panel has two positions: bed or sofa back. Two cubby boxes create additional cushioned seating.

“Some of our favorite touches are the bright pops of color used inside and out,” Jagodnik said. “We lined the ceiling and cab shelf with Sileather’s Theory Fire while their Theory Cloud adorns the walls. This silicone faux leather is easy to clean and environmentally friendly. A one-of-a-kind soft garage wall with several storage pockets separates the cab from the galley. Utilizing Sunbrella fabric throughout this piece creates superior temperature insulation and privacy.”

Tails is loaded with Stage 3 Lithionics, boasting 945Ah of power. For sunny days, the rooftop houses a 140W solar panel. All this power is more than enough to keep on Rigid Industries 50-inch curved dual row light bar, rock lights above the wheels, interior LED, ditch lights, fog lights, rear roof lights mounted to the safari roof rack, an electronic sliding passenger door, and more. Comfort and control is provided by Agile Offroad’s Fox Performance Series 2.0 shocks front and rear.
